Paper and phone, one menu

A printed menu that matches your digital one

Some guests want paper. Some tables have no signal. Scanqur turns the menu you already keep online into a print-ready PDF, with the same dishes, prices and order, and a QR code that leads back to the live version.

Why paper still matters

A QR menu does not make paper disappear

Guests ask for it

An older regular, a table of tourists with no data plan, a terrace in bright sun: there are always guests who would rather hold a menu. Taking paper away from them is a bad trade. The trouble is keeping a printed version that agrees with the menu online.

Two menus drift apart

Most restaurants that go digital keep an old Word or Canva file for print. The day a price changes, someone updates the online menu and forgets the file. A week later the paper and the screen disagree, and the guest notices before you do.

How it works

What is the printable menu in Scanqur?

A PDF made from your saved menu

The Printable menu page reads your menu as it is saved in Scanqur and lays it out as a PDF: categories in your order, dishes with their descriptions and prices. You do not retype anything, and there is no separate file to keep up to date.

What ends up on the page

The PDF follows the same rules as your online menu:

  • Hidden dishes and hidden categories are left out, and so are empty categories
  • A dish marked out of stock is still printed, since that is temporary
  • A price you chose to hide stays hidden on paper too
  • Optional: dish photos, a QR code to the online menu, your opening hours and contact details
The usual print problems

Where printed menus go wrong

None of these are dramatic. They just cost a little every week.

A designer for every price change

If the print file lives with a designer or an agency, every small change is an email and an invoice. So small changes wait, and the menu goes stale.

Retyping the same menu twice

Online menu in one tool, print file in another. Every new dish is typed twice, and every typo appears in only one of them.

One printed language

Printing a second language usually means a second layout. Most places skip it, and visitors get the menu they cannot read.

The Scanqur way

What the printable menu gives you

A short list of options, chosen so the result looks right without design work.

Three designs

Minimal (one column, no fills, prints cleanly on any printer), Classic (two columns, dotted lines up to each price, your hours framed at the end) and Visual (dishes as cards, with their photo when photos are on).

A4 or A5, color or black and white

A4 for a wall or a folder, A5 for a table card. Black and white is there for office printers and photocopies.

A QR code back to the live menu

Add your menu’s QR code to the PDF. Guests who want photos, translations or today’s price scan it from the paper.

Print in your menu’s languages

Choose which of your menu languages to print. Latin-alphabet languages, Arabic and Persian can be printed; other alphabets are greyed out for now.

Preview equals file

The preview next to the options is drawn with the same layout as the PDF, page by page, so what you see is what prints.

Step by step

Print your menu from Scanqur

You need a menu with at least one dish. Publishing it is only required for the QR code.

  1. 1

    Open Printable menu

In your dashboard, open Printable menu, the last entry under Your menu. It is available on the free plan and on Pro.

  2. 2

Pick a design and a paper size

Choose Minimal, Classic or Visual, then A4 or A5 and color or black and white. The preview updates as you change them.

Tip: A5 with Classic works well as a table card. Minimal in black and white is the safest choice for a cheap office printer.

  3. 3

    Choose the language

If your menu has several languages, pick the one to print. Make one PDF per language if you want a French table card and an English one.

  4. 4

    Decide what to include

Turn on product photos if your dishes have them, the QR code to the online menu, and your opening hours and contact details, printed after the last dish.

  5. 5

    Download and print

Click Download the PDF. Print it yourself, send it to a print shop, or use the printing partners listed in your dashboard. When a price changes, edit the menu and download a new PDF.

Do it right

Printed menu tips

Small choices that keep paper and screen in step.

Do this

  • Put the QR code on the paper

It turns the printed menu into a door to the live one: photos, other languages, today’s specials.

  • Reprint from Scanqur, not from an old file

Download a fresh PDF after each change. It takes a minute and the paper never contradicts the screen.

  • Date your print run in your head

Reprint after a price change, a new season or a supplier change. Keep the old copies for the recycling bin, not the tables.

Avoid this

  • Don’t link the QR code to the PDF

The PDF is for paper. On a phone, guests should land on the live menu, which searches, translates and stays current.

  • Don’t print photos on a weak printer

Photos eat ink and come out dark on office printers. Use the Visual design with photos for a print shop, Minimal or Classic otherwise.

  • Don’t laminate a menu you change weekly

Laminated menus feel permanent, so nobody reprints them. For a menu that moves, plain paper in a holder is easier to replace.

Illustrative example

A brasserie keeps paper on the terrace

A fictional business, to show how the pieces fit together.

Julien runs a brasserie with a busy terrace. Inside, guests scan the table QR code. Outside, the sun makes phone screens hard to read, and his older regulars ask for a card anyway.

He keeps his menu in Scanqur and prints an A5 Classic card for the terrace, with the QR code in the corner for anyone who wants photos or the English version. On Mondays, when the weekly specials change, he edits the menu and downloads a new PDF before opening.

The paper and the screen now say the same thing. The only work left is pressing print.
